I must confess......

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 (NIV) I did it ! I confess!! I am weak!! I gave into the desires of a 4 year old boy with beautiful blue eyes. He now the proud owner of a Webkin!! Now, I must admit I don't know the first thing about the Webkin craze except that every child we seem to encounter has one. Even our 4 and 5 year old friends. So, little guy and I picked up a couple yesterday. (They were on sale Buy 1 Get 1 - so how could I pass that up?) Anyway, we haven't even went to the computer and entered the "code." I guess once we do that, we'll figure out what all the fuss is about. That is so much like the way I make so many decisions in my life. I see it or think I have a good reason (such as my little fella) and I act upon that desire. More often than not, just like my latest acquisition, I want to be like everyone else - or at least in this case, my cutie to be like everyone else. Now, I am not here to bash Webkins or any shopping-related issue but I am here to say that I would be wise to take my own advice or at least that of Paul in the book of Romans in which he tells us not to conform to the trappings of this world. It is much too easy in our society to get what we want, when we want and for someone to give us a good reason as to why we should have it. But, in reality we should only be looking to the Lord to determine what we need, when will can have it and if we really need it. That is hard in a society that is infiltrated with subliminal messaging in every advertisement, TV show, magazine, kids toys, etc. We are surrounded and immersed in an instant gratification controlled society. - -One in which it is taught to do what feels right and in essence be your own god. That is not what the Lord designed nor call us to do. We should set ourselves apart as Christians and set the example for others to follow. Now, if I will follow this advice when it comes to shopping and trying to make my little fella happy. Maybe, next time you can go shopping with me and we can keep each other in line.. Dear Lord - Forgive me when I try to conform to the ways of this world. Forgive me Father when I try to rationalize or trivialize my actions, especially those that are not glorifying to you. Thank you Lord for being there for me in all things. AMEN Application:

  • In what areas of your life do you conform to the world?
  • Are you aware of all the trapping and solicitation in the world?
  • Pray that the Lord will open your eyes and convict you of things you may be doing that not of Him.

I understand how you feel I recently gave up Secalure music, TV and other stuff, I have to given in to that simply because (every one else does it) and tonight my youth pastor read a verse :1 John 2:15-17 tonight and convinced me of my doing. Where it be a toy or something different God will still love us. =) but I think you alreay knew that!
