Lost Focus

I am amazed at the amount of "buzz" things and events are getting these days. Some are very important such as our upcoming election. Some not so important, like the Rays in the race for the pennant. Some will argue this point with me, but hey come on -national security and the upcoming vote for the next leader of the free world vs a last place team making it to the World Series. We need to put everything in perspective. I guess what it comes down to is how passionate people are about their candidate, their cause, their sports team, their views, etc. All of us take precious time at the water cooler, on our blogs, on other social networking sites, writing editorials, and so on to get our view out there. After all, it is important that everyone be informed or at least know what we think. I have a different view on all of that as well as a challenge. I want to challenge everyone, including myself, to be at least as vocal and as passionate about spreading the good news of Jesus to a lost and hurting world. If we expended half the energy we are exerting on other avenues we could make such a difference for the Kingdom. I ask you to consider how often you are quick to bring up your views on a particular subject yet do not bring up Christ in mixed company. We, myself included, have a whole list of reasons why we can talk politics or sports but yet not religion. Sure -- there is a lot wrong with this world, this country, our state, city and even in our own homes. But, there is only one answer to the plight we all find ourselves -- Jesus Christ. Just imagine a world in which we all lived our lives according to the great commission in which Jesus asked us to "go and make disicples." Matt 28:19 The Bible says in John 16:33, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." He promises to take care of everything else if we will take care of each other. Share His blessing and His word with others and Christ will deliver on His promises. He cannot lie and He always keeps His promises. (John 3:33) So the next time, you're in a heated debate with someone, try to consider where your energies are directed -- are they at selfish motivations or for concern for your fellow man. I personally know that I have some evaluations in my own life that need to be made. What do you say?? Let's make a difference one person/argument at a time and be as passionate about Christ as we are anything else in our lives!!!! Dear Heavenly Father - I praise you for this country and all the freedoms You have given us. I pray that You direct our speech and discussions to be those that glorify You and You alone. I pray for the upcoming election and that You will encourage each of us to get out an vote - vote not our conscious but to seek You concerning the leaders and various amendments before us this coming November. I pray for a fervor and a passion for Christ to sweep this land to bring us into revival! In the precious name of Jesus - AMEN Application:

  • Do you have a particular a issue, stance, view, candidate etc that you back and are passionate and vocal about supporting? If so, do you do this with gentleness, love and kindness?
  • Do you have the same or more passion for the cause of Christ?
  • Pray that the Lord will open your eyes and heart to have a zeal for Him above all things and people.
